CSU Drops Out Of First Place In Horizon League With 85-67 Loss to UDM

DETRIOT, MI--- Cleveland State has dropped out of first place after a 85-67 loss to the Detroit Mercy Titans Thursday night. CSU has been very unsuccessful on Dick Vitale court at Callahan Hall, posting a 5-30 all time record coming into Thursday night's game.

CSU was hot coming into the game, while UDM was not, CSU won 6 of their last 8, while the Titans lost 7 of their last 9. FTs were the main source of scoring for UDM making 22 of their 27 chances at the line, compared to CSU only making 12. Some calls that sent UDM to the line were questionable, but they took full advantage, especially if your name was Antoine Davis, Davis made 12 of his 13 FTs, with 10 of those coming in the first half. Davis came close to his career high, which is 17 that he made ironically against CSU back in 2019. He finished the game with 35 points, making 10 of his 19 FG attempts, and lead the Titans in assists with 3. Early in the game, CSU would be up 6-4, but that would be CSU's only lead of the entire game, lasting 16 seconds, when it was Davis hitting a jumper to tie the game. It was a closely contested game all first half, the largest lead of the first half was 10, which UDM held at multiple points throughout the half. The Vikings closed out the first half an a good note, scoring 6 straight points, capped off by Yahel Hill scoring his first 2 points of the game with 1 second to go.

The second half was a different story, UDM got off and running and didn't look back, at the 11:12 mark, CSU did manage to cut the lead to 1, it was 54-53, after that, UDM would go on a 27-10 run over 9 minutes. On the bright side for the Vikings. Tristan Enaruna scored double figures in his 11th straight game, leading the Vikes with 18, he would be joined in the double digit cub by Drew Lowder who had 14.

The Vikings look to bounce back Saturday afternoon against the Oakland Grizzles, tip off is at 1 pm, the game will be on The Big One, Newsradio WTAM 1100 AM, 106.9 FM, the free iHeartRadio app, or HERE
