Guardians Survive Tigers' Comeback, Win 7-5 In Extras

The Guardians' first four batters in the 10th had extra-base hits off Will Vest (6-4), when Kwan doubled, Martínez tripled, José Ramírez and Kyle Manzardo doubled. Gabriel Arias added a one-out RBI single for a 7-3 lead. It was the first time Cleveland had four extra-base hits in any inning in 64 years.

This history made in the tenth erased a blown save by Cade Smith, who allowed a pinch hit home run to Kerry Carpenter in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score at three. It was Smith's sixth blown save in 21 chances.

The scoring started with C.J. Kayfus' RBI single in the second. Gleyber Torres tied the game in the third with his 16th home run. Arias' homer put Cleveland back ahead in the fourth, and Bo Naylor's RBI double in the sixth built a 3-1 lead.

The Guards now sit 5.5 games behind the Tigers in the AL Central and 2.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox, who lost to the Athletics 2-1 on Tuesday.

The three game series continues tonight when Tigers RHP Jack Flaherty (8-13, 4.69) and Guardians RHP Gavin Williams (10-5, 3.16). First Pitch at Comerica Park in Detroit is at 6:40.
