Study: Spice Jars Germiest Spot In Kitchen

(Washington, DC) -- A new study finds the biggest germ-collector in the kitchen is the space rack. Agriculture Department researchers examined how people preparing turkey burgers cross-contaminated various kitchen surfaces. They found that spice jars used in preparing the meal were far and away the germiest things, with 48-percent harboring bacteria from the turkey. Study authors say that while people might know it's important to clean cutting boards and wipe down handles, they probably don't think about what their hands deposit on the spice jars.
