A trip to Disney World is supposed to be a magical experience, but it almost had a tragic ending for one family, until a cast member and guests stepped in to save a little boy’s life. In a post in a Walt Disney World Tips and Tricks Facebook group, Christine Tagle shared the story of her family’s recent visit to Disney’s EPCOT, where they rode their favorite ride, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
They were on the popular attraction on the afternoon of September 21st and only 20 seconds into the ride, the mom noticed her five-year-old son passed out. Tagle was unable to wake him up during the ride, so as soon as it was over, she screamed for help and an employee, known as a Cast Member, directed her down a hall where she started CPR. A few seconds later, a Cast Member shocked him with an AED and a couple - one a nurse and one an EMT - took over doing CPR on the boy who was then having seizures.
The couple, who were also visiting EPCOT that day, did CPR until EMT services arrived, and the group effort saved the child’s life. “My son is alive, my son lived because when his (now we know) genetic heart disease presented itself we were at Disney where there is an AED everywhere,” Tagle explains. “My son is alive because we were at Disney with trained staff. My son is alive because of this couple.” Thanks to her post, she was able to connect with the good Samaritans who saved her son to thank them and she hopes to go to Disney to thank the Cast Members in person.
