People in central Florida already considered Cameron Elias a hero for working hard to restore power after Hurricane Milton, but the lineman became even more of one when he stepped in to save strangers after a car crash. He was on the job on Sunday, when he took a break from bringing electricity back to Peace River Electric customers to help free people trapped in the overturned car.
Elias saw bystanders attempting to rescue the two people inside and rushed to help them. He struggled to break the windshield, eventually kicking a hole in it, then breaking pieces of it out to make enough space for the occupants to escape from the vehicle safely. In addition to being a lineman, he’s also an EMT and after helping evaluate the pair for injuries, he treated a small cut he got on his arm from the glass.
Peace River Electric shared photos on social media showing Elias being what they call a “Hurricane Hero,” and praised him for jumping into action to help in this emergency. They write, “Cameron should be commended for his quick response and awareness in helping our community not only by helping restore power to those impacted by Hurricane Milton but going above and beyond in responding to this traffic accident as well.”
