On Tuesday, Jelly Roll treated his fans to a surprise free meal at Gus’s Fried Chicken in Little Rock, Arkansas. Before his sold-out show at Simmons Bank Arena, the singer, rapper, and songwriter posted on social media reminiscing about his early performances in the area and inviting people to enjoy a meal on him. Lots of fans took him up on the offer and a large crowd descended on the restaurant, with lines stretching “down the hall, out the door, and to the stop sign down there.”
The restaurant's general manager, Justin Haley, described the scene, saying they served around 400 people. Jelly Roll picked up the entire $11-thousand tab for the meals and left a generous tip of $7,500 for the staff, ensuring they were well taken care of for what was surely a hard day’s work. Haley shared how much this act of kindness impacted the employees, saying the musician "blessed every employee here."
In his post to Instagram, Jelly Roll reflected on his past, grateful and nostalgic for his journey, recalling his early shows at venues like Sticky’s and The Rev Room, where he played multiple times in his early days and always ate at Gus’s Chicken next door. He also shared words of encouragement to other artists working their way up, telling them to keep performing. The gesture was a way for him to honor his fans and to share his joy in celebrating his success and his sold-out concert in Little Rock.
