Bright Horizons child care centers in Massachusetts have partnered with waste solutions company Reworld in Haverhill to convert used diapers into electricity.
The waste-to-energy scheme involves collecting diapers from several daycare centers, sterilizing them, and processing them to create steam energy, which is then fed into the power grid.
Although the process is costly and does produce some emissions, since launching, thousands of pounds of diapers have been diverted from landfills, helping to lower the environmental impact of non-biodegradable
