Last Friday in Macomb, Oklahoma, a truck crashed into a tree at high speed, splitting the tree and sparking a fire. Residents Stacey Murray and Chad Humphrey were nearby and acted quickly after hearing the impact, rushing to the scene. Murray, who saw the accident from his porch, called out to his family for help and sprinted toward the burning vehicle, where he found two men trapped inside.
With the flames growing, the good Samaritans used two fire extinguishers to try and control the blaze while they worked to free the men. Murray was able to pull one passenger from the vehicle, while Humphrey struggled to save the disoriented driver, whose side was blocked by the fallen tree. Despite the danger and intense heat, the rescuers managed to carry the victims to safety just before the truck became completely engulfed in fire. Moments later, it exploded.
In a public statement, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office praised the men's bravery, crediting their actions with saving lives. Both Murray and Humphrey say they didn’t consider their own safety and simply acted in the moment. Officials stress that the victims likely wouldn’t have survived had it not been for the courageous response of the two men.
