When the time finally came for country musician CousinHomer to have his 13-year-old black lab Bella put down, he wanted to give her the best final day. He contacted Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen in Saint Joseph, Missouri, ordering their largest and finest steak. Bella had been his loyal companion and he wanted her last meal to be special.
Cheddar’s staff asked CousinHomer what side dishes he wanted, so he explained who the meal was for and that Bella might only eat french fries. When he arrived at the restaurant to pick up the meal, the manager and staff personally came out to meet him. They handed him Bella’s steak and fries, extended condolences on behalf of the entire team, and told him there would be no charge for the meal.
Inside the bag, CousinHomer found not only the steak but also a letter of condolence signed by the restaurant staff. He shared the heartfelt story in TikTok, recounting the kindness, and the post went viral, racking up over 3-million views and thousands of comments praising Cheddar’s compassion. The restaurant’s client relations team later mailed him a branded fleece throw with a message wishing that comfort would “wrap around you like a warm Honey Butter Croissant,” which he shared in a second viral video.
