In Cincinnati, Ohio, police officers are being hailed as heroes for helping to save a woman threatening to jump from the fifth floor of a parking garage. Multiple 911 calls from bystanders brought officers Newman and Ramey to the scene, where they found the woman standing on the wrong side of the railing. Body camera footage shows Officer Newman calmly speaking to her, offering comfort and sharing personal experiences to try to connect.
Newman tells the woman about losing his daughter years ago, saying he wishes that she could still be here. The woman reveals that she’d lost her own children and Newman reassures her by saying, “They are angels looking over us. There’s an angel for you.” His words persuade the woman to ask for help, but as officers reach out, she slips and is left hanging by her hands.
Fortunately, the officers reached her before she fell and quickly pulled her to safety, preventing a possible tragedy. Cincinnati Police report that the woman was unharmed and Chief Theresa Theetge later praised the officers, saying their training prepares them for moments like this, but their passion for serving the community ultimately made the difference.
