Man Stolen From Mom’s Arms As Baby Reunites With Brother After 50 Years

When Peter Macdonald was just 10 weeks old, his father snatched him from his mother’s arms through a train window at the station, separating him from both his mother and his two-year-old brother, Trevor. The 58-year-old house painter from Lancashire, England, grew up in the foster system, only learning about his brother when he was seven. He’s been searching for him ever since.

Trevor, who’s now 61 and works as a carpenter, says their mother only spoke of Peter later in life. Before she died in 2008, she urged him to find his brother. “When she got very ill, she started to talk a lot more, open up a lot more,” Trevor recalls, “She did say to me: ‘Find him, look for him.’” He also says that their mother believed Peter might have been better off where he was, but often wondered how he was doing.

After having been separated for over 50 years, the brothers were recently reunited through the U.K. television show “Long Lost Family,” finally getting to see each other again during a meeting in London on what would have been their late mother’s birthday. Peter, who has two daughters and four grandchildren, was moved to see photos of his mother and noted how much she resembled his children. After their meeting, Peter says they had an “automatic connection” and he promises to keep visiting Trevor regularly.
