Sister René Parman of the Humility of Mary community in Lowellville, Ohio, celebrated her 105th birthday on Sunday with a round of golf at Knoll Run Golf Course, continuing a tradition she began in her 40s.
A lifelong teacher who entered religious life at 18, she’s been golfing weekly with friends for decades and still practices daily despite being legally blind and dealing with past injuries.
Her fellow sisters help her on the course by guiding her shots and locating her ball, allowing her to stay active in the sport she loves.
Although she’s suggested this might be her last season, her companions doubt she’ll give up the game that’s been a source of joy, exercise, and community for much of her life.
