A family-owned bakery in metro Detroit is experiencing a remarkable turnaround thanks to a viral TikTok video that attracted a surge of new customers. Sweet 220 Bakery, founded by Hassan Makki and his wife in 2008, had been struggling with rising costs and declining profits before Seoung Lee from Chow Down Detroit shared a positive review online. The post quickly gained thousands of views, bringing large crowds to the bakery.
Since the video went viral, the bakery has sold out nearly every day for four weeks and has been baking around 2,000 cupcakes daily. Makki mentioned that they have added extra staff to keep up with the increased demand, and customers now line up before the shop opens. He attributes the bakery’s resurgence to Lee for shining a spotlight on their business.
Makki describes the community support as overwhelming and expresses his gratitude for the response. He emphasizes that the bakery remains committed to its core values of faith, kindness, and community while continuing to serve its growing customer base.
