How To Stop The Sunday Scaries

Every adult who has drank alcohol knows the side effects it can cause. Fun at first, a night of drinking can be thrilling but the next morning is usually not as exciting. Most people describe it as the "Sunday Scaries." Dr. Jessica Stern, clinical psychologist, describes these side effects as a series of experiences. They include anxiety and sadness which can be caused by the fact that you know you will have to face all of your upcoming responsibilities.

In an article published by Today.com, Dr. Stern suggests that by making some small changes you can help make your Sundays feel less stressful.

Make sure that you set aside some time on Sunday to unwind. Sundays should be a day for you to relax and get ready for the week. You could workout, meal prep and even look at the week to come to start planning things out.

Mondays are especially hard after a weekend of fun so try to plan ahead. If you tend to feel overwhelmed on a Monday morning be more prepared beforehand. You can pick out your clothes, plan your breakfast and even look over your schedule to help you feel more comfortable about what lies ahead of you.

Make sure that you treat yourself. Give yourself something to look forward to on that scary Monday morning. Stern suggests listening to a new podcast or playlist while guzzling down your favorite morning beverage.

Make sure that if you work from home you are doing something to get your brain to recognize that you have now shifted gears from home life to work life. She recommends that you fake a commute to help with that transition time. After work, try and take a walk, read or meditate to get you out of the work zone and back into home life.

Lastly, keep track of your feelings on Sundays. Try jotting down the concerns that get you down on Sundays and figure out the best way to handle them or change those feelings.
