After nearly three years in foster care, a young boy in Tennessee has finally found his forever family. Khaza David Koon was officially adopted just before Christmas in a Hamilton County courtroom by Anna and Brenden Koon, who’d been caring for him since he was two weeks old.

The couple began fostering children nearly five years ago through the Chambliss Center for Children, offering short-term care while families worked toward reunification. When Khaza arrived in their home in April of last year, they understood that reunification was still the goal, but over time he became part of their everyday family life.

Last fall, the state asked whether they would be willing to adopt him. They enthusiastically agreed. The adoption closed a long chapter of uncertainty and opened a new one as Khaza became a permanent member of the Koon family.
