After posting a TikTok video about his struggling business, a 19-year-old restaurant owner in Taylor, Michigan, saw a sudden surge in customers. Alexander Quinones, who opened Detroit Loves Tacos 2 last November with $5,000 of his savings and support from his mother, Julie Stevens, says he shared the video after facing the possibility of closing. By the next morning, the video had gone viral, bringing in customers from across Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, and even from Canada.

Quinones says he put all his time and money into the restaurant, working long nights with a vision to serve great food and connect with customers. After the video went viral, the restaurant began selling out nearly every day, with visitors traveling long distances to try the authentic Mexican fare. Customers describe the food as flavorful and worth the trip. Quinones’ mom has even been helping out to manage the increased demand.

He says he discovered his passion for the restaurant business at age 12. His mom describes his work ethic as strong, noting he’s the first to arrive and the last to leave. The teen expressed deep gratitude for the support and says he plans to expand the business with additional locations and food trucks.
