Many of us adults have consumed alcohol at least one time in our life and know all too well the side effects. The next day hangover can sometimes leave you saying "I will never do that again." A new study published by, Alcohol and Alcoholism, finds that the older you get the easier a hangover is to handle.
The data came from 761 participants from ages 18-94 with 61% of those female. This information was collected through an online survey that was run June 24th through July 26th,2020 in the Netherlands. People were invited through Facebook to complete the survey that was conducted by Utrecht University and the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences of Utrecht University.
There are a couple reasons why they think these symptoms get easier with age. It may be because you simply get used to it and can deal with it better. They say as we get older, our pain sensitivity lessens making the side effects less noticeable. You begin to know what will help cure your hangover so you can get on with your day. When you are young, you feel like it will never end.
This is all despite the fact that when people get older they tend to drink less than younger groups. As we get older we drink more responsibly. We also begin to know our limits. Unlike when we are younger and not worried about the morning after feeling until it occurs. They saw differences in hangovers depending on your sex (male or female) in the younger groups studied, but that became less prevalent in the older age groups.
Either way you can never truly escape a hangover. You can try to prevent one by not consuming as much alcohol and trying to hydrate before/during/after drinking. We all have our favorite hangover cures such grabbing fast food for breakfast or enjoying the hair of the dog the next morning. Whatever your method is we hope it works!
