Many of us licensed drivers have felt the anxiety of driving past a cop a little too fast. When you see that car pull out behind you it can get your heart racing. CarInsurance.com reveals how some people have used some pretty good excuses to get out of that speeding ticket.
According to their survey 50% of people using an excuse were successful in getting out of their ticket.
The Top Excuses Were:
- I didn't know I was speeding (26%)
- Medical Emergency (25%)
- Everyone else was going the same speed (22%)
- Late for work (21%)
- I had to use the bathroom (20%)
Another way people got out of their speeding ticket was to ask for a warning. In 2019 and 2020, 48% of drivers asked for a warning ticket to get out of their speeding ticket. Compared to the 36% of people in 2021, half of them who asked received a warning ticket.
You can always fight your speeding ticket to try and get out of paying the fine. According to the survey out of the 28% of people who appealed their speeding ticket most of them were successful.
