They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. An article written by HuffPost.com asked dieticians their opinion on the foods we eat in the morning. For many of us cereal, muffins, waffles, bagels, etc. are the breakfast options we choose but these items are high in carbs but low in protein.
Jessica Bippen, a registered dietitian, says "A savory dish can be a really great way to balance your blood sugar and really give you the energy you need to start your day." A better balanced breakfast should consist of protein, healthy fat, complex carbs and veggies.
Most breakfast foods are full of sugar and contribute to weight gain. Savory dishes keep you fuller longer, which in turn will help you snack less, according to dietician Kim Rose.
Don't feel like you have to eat your leftovers exactly how you served it the first time. Everyone wants to eat something that is appealing so repurpose your leftovers into something you want to eat in the morning. You can always take that turkey dinner and make it into a breakfast sandwich.
Rose also says eating spicy foods in the morning can prevent salt cravings. This in turn can help with high blood pressure. Of course they say to avoid greasy, fried foods which are not nutrient-dense.
