Even if you are not a parent but you have been around kids you know that they can be very picky eaters. Introducing them to new things can be an extremely difficult feet. Jennifer Anderson, a registered dietician, suggests a few tips that can help you to get the kids to try new things without wasting food or money.
She says serve them in "micro portions." When trying something new most people like to taste test first before they go and grab more. Try the same thing with your little ones. Start off with a very small portion and then if they like it they will ask for more. This will help reduce the amount of food that could be wasted which will in turn save you money.
Anderson recommends that you start learning how to make basic foods. You can buy and cook a chicken on the weekend then turn it into many different meals throughout the week. This way you can not only save money but time as well.
You don't need to always splurge on organic foods. Get more bang for your buck. Anderson says conventionally grown foods are a lot less than organic ones. She also recommends the Dirty Dozen list, that tells you the top 12 foods with the most pesticides. As well as the Clean 15, which lists foods with the least amount of pesticides.
