Throughout time Homosapiens' life spans have increased. We now know that smoking and drinking excessively can take years off of our lives but what can you do to add years to your life? EatThis.com asked experts what habits can extend our life span.

Maintaining a healthy body weight can help you prolong your life. Obesity has been proven to lead to other fatal health issues like heart attack and diabetes. The CDC recommends that ones' body mass should be between 18.5 and 24.9. Your BMI (body mass index) is the measure of body fat based on one's height and weight as it applies to men and women.

Drinking coffee is good! It can cut your risk of liver problems. It has also been found to lower the risk of Parkinson's disease, prostate cancer and melanoma.

Use your sunscreen! Not only are you being protected from the harmful rays of the sun but it can also help your body age less. It takes about 15 minutes for the sunscreen to absorb into your skin so before you head outside make sure you spray yourself down. If you are going to be doing physical activity that causes you to sweat or if you are swimming remember to reapply often.

Exercise! Exercising for 30 minutes a day is a great way to get your blood flowing, keep your heart happy and lower your risk of stroke, cardiovascular disease and even diabetes. Of course, being physically active can help with weight loss as well.

Your happiness should be your number 1 priority! Having a positive outlook can lead to being happier mentally which can have an effect on your physical life.
