Boost Your Energy Levels Throughout The Day

Do you feel like you are dragging to get through the day? There are a few healthy ways to help you get that boost you need to keep you going.

Registered dietitian nutritionist, Elizabeth DeRobertis, recommends eating every 3 to 4 hours. She says going too long without eating something can cause your energy levels to dip.

Protein is what helps keep your body going. It takes longer to break down in they system thus holding you over for a longer period of time. Try enjoying a breakfast packed with protein to help increase your stamina.

Reach for fiber-rich carbs. Fruits and whole grains are a great source of fiber and carbohydrates which can help provide your body with energy. The downside is that simple carbs contain sugar which can raise your energy levels for the time being but causes a crash afterwards.

When given a choice between 100 calorie pack nuts or 100 calorie pack of pretzels, the nuts are the better alternative for a snack. The nuts are filled with protein and fiber which will turn into energy you can burn. The pretzels do not contain the nutrients you need to produce high energy.

Being dehydrated can also make you feel lethargic. Make sure you drink enough water throughout the day to keep you energized.

Just like sugar, caffeine can give you a spike in your energy levels but not for long. Caffeine can actually decrease your energy after the initial boost.

Begin working out more often. DeRobertis says that exercise produces more feel-good hormones, endorphins. It also gets your blood pumping which strengthens your circulation.

Self-care is just as important when it comes to your overall feelings. Energy comes from two different sources; physical and emotional or psychological energy. Sometimes it is not food you are looking for to give you that jump start. Before grabbing that snack or drinking some caffeine try taking a quick walk outside for some fresh air and sunshine.
