Your Personality Could Keep You From Losing Weight

Many of us have been unsatisfied with our weight. Some of us even try to diet and/or workout to keep those pounds off. Trying to keep that weight off might not have to do anything with your routine it might be your personality, according to researchers in Australia. The Australian scientific agency CSIRO studied more than 250-thousand people.

"Too often diets are developed with a one-size-fits-all approach that ignores the fact that some people behave or think differently than others," explains lead study author Dr. Emily Brindal. "Working with your diet type could help you achieve better weight loss outcomes in the longer term." They have identified six main personality types that would benefit from a different form of diet.

The most common type of dieter are "thinkers." This type of person is usually has a clear goal in mind, which will help them stay motivated. They are analytical and sensitive when it comes to negative feedback. That can lead to stress and anxiety which can cause them to stray from their diet.

"Battlers" are next in line. These are the types of people who are prone to stress and anxiety. They end up giving into temptation and make poor food choices. This personality type needs strategies to break the diet cycle. This way they can not only lose weight but keep it off as well.

Those whom have the highest body mass index are the "cravers." People who fall into this category are more than likely to have extreme cravings that can lead to binge eating.

Likeable, friendly folks are considered "pleasers." They may be sensitive to criticism and social comparisons. For these people it is important for them to surround themselves with positive reinforcement.

"Foodies" have the most balanced diet of them all. These personalities are passionate about everything related to food.

Some people like to maintain their diet during the week so when they go to social events they can "fall off the wagon." These types of people are "socializers." They don't want restrictions to keep them from enjoying themselves at social gatherings.

Whatever your personality type, being aware of your relationship with food can help you overcome these obstacles.
