We all love our free time but how much is too much? According to a new study, people were just as unhappy with having too much free time as they were with too little free time.
People who have very little free time are stressed because they feel they don't have enough time to get the things done that they would like. The researchers at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School found that after too much leisure time people's well-being began to decline. After looking into the relationship between happiness and the amount of free time people have, they found that about 3.5 hours a day would suffice.
An over abundance of freedom can actually have a negative affect on the person. They found that the maximum amount of hours one could enjoy without dulling their happiness is about 7 hours.
Lead study author Marissa Sharif explains, "How you spend the free time matters a lot. If you use the discretionary time productively, that can make you feel accomplished, fulfilled." There is no harm in having a lot of free time as long as you are happy and enjoyed how you spent that time.
