Mindless Habits That Make You Tired

Are you always tired? Do you feel that no matter how much rest you get you can't get rid of that groggy feeling? Of course grabbing a caffeinated beverage can help give you the boost you need but that won't last. There could be things that you are doing on a daily basis that are sucking the energy out of you. Here are a few habits that could be to blame.

We all like to watch a little TV when we are relaxing on the couch but watching emotionally charged shows can be exhausting. This is because our brains imagine what it would be like to experience what the character is going through. They call this way of thinking, trait identification. It can happen with both positive and negatively charged emotions. These shows can overstimulate the brain causing you to have low energy. Be weary of what you watch and when you watch it. This way you can prevent that drowsiness from kicking in too soon.

Having a messy workplace can not only make you feel flustered, it can be mentally draining. This cluttered environment can make it harder for you to pay attention. Distractions can take away from the task at hand, making it take longer than necessary to finish what you are working on. This causes you to use more mental focus which requires more energy. Try cleaning up your workspace. This way you can get rid of that energy vampire.

Another way you could be losing energy and not realizing it is by having too many tabs open on your computer. This will not only drain your battery life but your mental energy will dwindle as well. Having so much to focus on can cause you to run out of steam. Try opening only the tabs you are in need of right now, this way you can save your brain from going into overdrive.

Slouching can be depleting your energy levels. Poor posture puts more pressure on the body's muscles, joints and ligaments. That means your body has to use even more energy to combat this physical power sucker. Try adjusting your posture. You can get an ergonomic chair or cushion to help elevate this problem.

Don't let the little tasks pile up. When you put things off like texting someone back, making a doctor's appointment or changing a lightbulb you can cause yourself unnecessary stress. You begin to overload yourself mentally by letting those tasks get out of control. By making a small list and crossing a few things off at a time you can deal with these tasks while giving yourself peace of mind.

Dim the lights in the evening. The longer you have bright lights on the longer your brain thinks it is daytime. By dimming the lights your brain will start releasing the sleep hormone, melatonin. This will help keep your sleep-wake cycle on track. So, when the sun starts to go down, dim the lights.
