Exercising Just 10 Minutes A Day Could Save Lives

We all know exercise is good for our health, but for many finding at least 30 minutes to hit the gym or even take a walk each day isn’t easy. Well, a new study suggests you don’t need that much time to improve your health.

A new study published in JAMA Internal Medicine suggests that just 10 minutes of physical activity each day could be life saving for many. In fact, the study argues that each year 110,000 deaths could be prevented if folks over 40 just included 10 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity to their daily routine. What’s more, adding 20 to 30 minutes could result in even more lives saved.

“We know exercise is good for us,” Pedro Saint-Maurice, the study's first author and an epidemiologist at the National Cancer Institute, tells CNN. “This study provides additional evidence of the benefits at the population level: if all adults in the United States (over age 40) were to exercise just a bit more each day, a large number of deaths could be prevented each year.” He adds, “We can make our nation healthier by encouraging everyone to add an additional 10 minutes of activity or more each day."
