How To Entertain The Kids While You Watch The Super Bowl

If your kids are really into football, they may actually take an interest in the Super Bowl. But most little kids aren’t there yet and if you’re having or going to a Super Bowl party, you’ll want the tiny tots to be occupied so you can enjoy the game. Sure, you could just let them hang with your guests, where they’ll hear grown-ups yelling all sorts of adult words at the TV and could potentially spill the Touchdown Punch, but it’s a long game and young kids aren’t known for their patience.

So you may want to try these ideas to keep kids entertained during the Super Bowl:

  • Let them do game day face painting - They may not care about football, but kids do love getting into the spirit, just like their parents. Have an artistic, patient friend who’d be willing to take on this task? Even better! Set them up in a room and let the painting begin. If not, let the art-loving big kids do their best to create stripes, team letters, numbers, footballs and more.
  • Let them make crafts - We’re talking ones that don’t require much adult supervision. They can create “pom poms” by gluing team-colored streamers to empty toilet paper rolls or just get crafty with paper, glue, felt, scissors and coloring supplies set up in an out-of-the-way room. Keep them motivated by making it a contest with prizes for “most original,” “most colorful” or other random categories.
  • Set up a game room - For the littles, try games like Jenga, Zingo, Uno and Guess Who? Older kids can have fun with Mad Libs, Boggle, Foosball and video games. You can also print out football-themed word searches, coloring sheets and crossword puzzles.
  • Movie marathon - The trick here is finding movies that appeal to a range of ages that the kids haven’t already seen half a dozen times. Or you could play something that appeals to the younger ones, like “Encanto” or “Luca,” and let the older kids create their own Super Bowl commercials on tablets or a parents’ old phone.
  • Hire a babysitter - It may sound strange to pay someone to watch your kids while you’re there, but it’s a smart move. It lets you pass the role of master of ceremonies to the sitter, who can organize, referee and intervene with all the young guests. You could also ask tween or teen guests who are coming if they want the job and they can earn a little cash while their parents watch the game.
