Secrets To A Happy Marriage From “The Pioneer Woman”

If you know anything about Ree Drummond, it’s probably that she’s a great cook. She shows off her skills as host of the show “The Pioneer Woman,” is a cookbook author and food blogger, plus she’s been married to her husband, Ladd, for 25 years. In a recent Instagram post, she shares a photo of them together along with what gives them marital bliss.

"Never mind my crooked sunglasses,” Ree writes, “I just wanted to share a photo with Ladd from last summer and also use this opportunity to share three of my secrets to a happy marriage:

  1. “Listen to each other.”
  2. “Touch feet in bed right before you go to sleep, even if you’re mad.”
  3. “Never, ever ski together. ❤️ Well, it’s a start, anyway!”

We’re down with the first two, but where does that last tip come from? According to “Today,” it may trace back to a story Ree told on her blog a few years ago about a ski trip her family took to Vail, Colorado. She writes that she’s basically a newbie to skiing and she tired out quickly, but her husband was ready to keep going. He was egging her on, so they kept going, but she paid the price. “I felt like I was going to die. My hips and thighs were on fire,” she recalls. “I needed a Saint Bernard to come save me.” But it seems she’s learned her lesson and since then, they’ve returned to Vail, but she doesn’t hit the slopes with Ladd. She explains, “We don’t ski together because I want to stay married.”
