Earlier this week, Clanton, Alabama, 11-year-old Caleb McKee was honored for helping save his 88-year-old neighbor, Ms. Wright, who became trapped under her car last month. While playing outside, he heard her cries for help and ran over to check on her. After learning the car had rolled over her legs, the boy ran inside, called 911, and waited with her until emergency crews arrived.
Despite not knowing the full address, Caleb remained calm, and responders quickly located the scene. Firefighters, police, and paramedics worked together to lift the car using logs and a jack, successfully freeing Ms. Wright. Her young neighbor stayed by her side throughout the ordeal, describing it as a very intense experience.
His parents praised his bravery, saying they were proud of how composed he was. Ms. Wright is now recovering and recently visited the McKees to thank Caleb in person. On Monday night, the Clanton City Council formally recognized the tween for his quick thinking and courage, though Caleb humbly says he doesn’t see himself as a hero.
