Homeless Man Stops Traffic To Save Young Girl With Autism

Last week, a six-year-old girl with autism ran away from her family while they were in the middle of a move in downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin. Her grandmother was loading the car when the child ran more than two blocks and into a busy street. Her family feared she might get hit by a car or jump into the water, but a man ran into the road, stopped traffic, and brought her to safety.

The man who stepped in to help is Weldon Tucker, a local man currently experiencing homelessness and receiving support from the shelter behind the family’s apartment building. The girl’s mother, Faith Roberts, is calling him a hero, saying, “He was just like, ‘Happy to help. Happy I was there.’” She offered him money, but he declined, insisting that he didn’t want anything in return.

When a local reporter caught up with Tucker, he was humble about his actions, saying, “I just do my best... I’m so used to doing helpful things.” The family is deeply grateful he was there at the right time, and they hope more people learn about his act of kindness.
