In West Jordan, Utah, a fast-moving fire destroyed two homes on Saturday afternoon, but not before a group of neighborhood teenagers rushed in to help. Thick smoke filled the air as the fire spread and the teens, who live just a few houses away, jumped a fence to get closer. “Without a second thought, we just jumped the fence,” one teen said, explaining that they wanted to see if they could help.
As propane tanks exploded nearby, the group spotted a truck in the driveway but no one coming out of the home, leading them to believe someone might be trapped inside. Doorbell camera footage shows the teens pounding on the door before noticing a dog inside through a window. Acting quickly, they kicked the door down and went in, ultimately rescuing two dogs from the burning house.
The teens later said that the gratitude of the dogs’ owners made the risk worth it. “Just how grateful the family was, it made you feel good inside,” one said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the bravery of the young rescuers made sure there was a silver lining to the story: the safe return of the family’s beloved pets.
