A peregrine falcon in Rhode Island was saved after breaking its beak when it flew into Rhode Island Hospital, thanks to help from a local dental surgeon.

Sheida Soleimani, executive director of the Congress of the Birds, coordinated the rescue.

Volunteer Rachael Gilardetti, whose day job is a dental surgeon, performed the delicate procedure using dental epoxy and acrylic to repair the split beak.

The bird, one of four hatched on the Superman Building in Providence three years ago, is now recovering at the organization’s sanctuary.

It is expected to stay there for about a year before being released back into the wild.
